Exciting information for my Myopia patients!

November 2019, Cooper Vision received FDA approval for the first soft contact lens specifically designed to reduce the rate of Myopia progression in children. The MiSight lens design has been available in Asia and Canada for several years and US Optometrists have been waiting anxiously for this soft contact lens design option. The study applied to the FDA showed a 52% rate of reduction in the lengthening of the eye.

Currently, we have have been controlling myopia progression with Orthokeratology and Atropine eye drops (80% reduction respectively). Although MiSight has a lower control rate, this soft lens will provide doctors with an additional therapy tool for children. Combined with Atropine drops, we should be able to achieve excellent control of Myopia progression.

Dr. Labiento Smith has been chosen by Cooper Vision to fit these MiSite lenses. Please contact the office if you are interested in Myopia control for your child.

Below is an excerpt from Cooper Vision.

The clinical study of MiSight 1 day lenses was the first to demonstrate sustained reduction in myopia progression with a soft contact lens over a three-year period.1†

With MiSight, we also saw 52% reduction in average axial lengthening1†

*Indications for Use: MiSight® (omafilcon A) daily wear single use Soft Contact Lenses are indicated for the correction of myopic ametropia and for slowing the progression of myopia in children with non-diseased eyes, who at the initiation of treatment are 8-12 years of age and have a refraction of -0.75  to -4.00 diopters (spherical equivalent) with ≤ 0.75 diopters of astigmatism. The lens is to be discarded after each removal.

**Based on a clinical study in which participants were between the ages of 8 and 12 at initial fit.

Dr. Labiento-Smith is fantastic! Not only did she do a great exam, and a spot-on refraction, and give me a sample of some really great eye drops for allergies, but she also found that I had a previously undiagnosed medical condition, which I am now getting treatment for.
